About the Project

This digital project is unfolding in several stages:

  • The first phase has focused on the collection of Sinai icons held at both Princeton University and the University of Michigan.
  • During the second phase, the Sinai icons held only in the Michigan archive were added to the site.
  • The third phase includes the addition of the manuscripts and liturgical objects.
  • The fourth phase will focus on the architectural details and expedition photographs.

The "Additional Resources" page is regularly updated with relevant collections and details about Sinai.

The inputting and correction of the images and data on this site are ongoing. To suggest edits or updates to the information on this site, please contact us at: sinai.digital.archive[at]gmail[dot]com

A note about dates: The dates listed in the metadata for each object (esp. icons) are not definitive. These are dates listed on the archive cards at the University of Michigan. The "notes" section for each object will eventually include details about scholarly debates and issues related to the dating and other relevant information.
